SAMBAR POWDER



We all love idlis and dosas and sambar is the accompaniment that is made regularly at home. Why not we make the fresh masala at home in small quantities for our use. I feel the store bought ones loose the flavours as they remain on the shelf for quite some time. Here is the recipe for you.

Ingredients:
Coriander seeds ..... 1/4 cup.
Cumin seeds ........... 1 tbsp.
Chana dal ................ 1 tbsp.
Toor dal .................. 1 tbsp.
Methi seeds ............ 1 tsp.
Red chillies (dry)..... 6 - 8
Kashmiri chillies .... 4-5  (or add 1 tbsp Kashmiri chilli powder for colour)
Curry leaves ........... 8
Cloves ...................... 5
Oil ............................1tsp.

Method:
1. Heat1 tsp oil in a pan.
2. Add dals first and stir fry.
3.  Next add the remaining ingredients. 
4. Roast them on medium flame stirring continuously.
5.. Dry grind into a slightly coarse powder.
6. Store in a dry sterilized jar.
