APPLE PICKLE / APPLE KA ACHAR


Tried out this sweet sour and spicy pickle with apples today. It is really very delicious. If you want to serve it instantly just simmer for little more time sprinkling water as needed.

 Ingredients: 
Apples ..... 2 or as or as needed)
Saunf / fennel seeds ... 1 tsp
Cumin seeds .............. 1 tsp
Mustard seeds ........... 1 tsp
Kalonji / onion seeds ... 1/2 tsp
 Methi / fenugreek seeds .. 1/2 tsp
 Dry red chillies ........... 2-3
Turmeric powder ..... 1/4 tsp
 Crushed jaggery ....... 1 tsp
Vinegar .................. 1 tbsps
 Salt ........... to taste
Oil ....... 2 - 3 tbsps


 Method:
 1. Wash the apples well and wipe them with a kitchen cloth.
 2. Cut them into small cubes or desired size pieces.
 3. Now dry roast lightly all the spices mentioned in the list and grind them coarsely.
 4. Heat oil in a pan. Reduce the heat and add the jaggery and vinegar.
 5. Stir until jaggery melts. Tip in the spice powder and salt.
6. Add the apple cubes and mix well to coat the masala.
7. Simmer for a minute.
 8. Allow it to cool and then put it in a sterilized jar.
Serve with Rotis / Puris / Theplas

    1. Dry roasting means sauteeing in a griddle without using oil until the spices get a nice aroma and colour.

  3. This pickle sounds delicious. I like the idea of adding the apples at the end so that they are still crispy when you eat the pickle. Be perfect with puris and theplas.

  4. Shobha I made apple pickle recently and loved it.However, I added ready made pickle masala which I had. An easy and delicious alternate to raw mangoes.

  5. This apple pickle surely seems to be having tangy sweet flavors. The apple pickle would even go with mathri. I will try with green apples as well.

  6. Apple pickle sounds lipsmackingly delicious. Never thought of making pickle with apples. So innovative and a must try recipe. Dry roasted spices definitely give a wonderful aroma.
